Project “Steps” |
The WorkOne Project “Steps” is an initiative funded by the Indiana Department of Workforce Development that will assist 100 Southern Indiana residents to complete their associate’s degrees to pursue careers in demand occupations. The initiative can provide up to $3,000 for tuition and up-to $500 for books and supplies to students who face affordability issues and can complete their associate’s degrees by June 30, 2010.
The WorkOne Project “Steps” Initiative, which targets students who have dropped out of school for at-least two semesters due to financial barriers, also aims to help increase Southern Indiana’s educational levels. The Southern Indiana region lags the state and national averages for Associates Degrees and Bachelor’s Degrees. An increase in educational level has a major impact on an individual’s lifetime earnings. Nationally, the Associates Degree demonstrates the most significant post-secondary educational attainment growth. The Associates Degree credential aligns to an increasing share of the labor market across a variety of business/industry sectors.
Toward the end of a participant’s post-secondary training, they will engage in job search activities and recruitment assistance with WorkOne staff to work toward reaching their employment goal.
